Louisville, Kentucky – A sweltering, stormy start to the week is underway in Kentucky, with widespread showers and thunderstorms raising the risk of isolated flash flooding—especially east of I-65 through Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a muggy air mass will keep unstable conditions in place, with the heaviest rainfall today west of I-65 gradually shifting eastward by Tuesday. Daytime highs will remain in the low-to-mid 80s, with localized downpours and thunderstorms likely through tonight.

Cities including Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, and Lexington can expect rounds of heavy rain and lightning, which may affect evening commutes and early travel Tuesday morning. Low-lying areas and roads prone to poor drainage could see temporary flooding. Storms are forecast to taper off by late Tuesday night.

Drivers should allow extra time for travel, avoid water-covered roads, and stay weather-aware through Tuesday evening. Power outages may occur where storms are strongest—charging devices and having backup lighting is advised.

Showers are expected to wind down by midweek, but additional alerts remain possible if rain totals increase.
