Paducah, Kentucky – Triple-digit heat will grip western Kentucky Wednesday as heat index values spike near 111° by mid-afternoon, prompting a continued Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. CDT.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, dangerously high temperatures will affect much of western Kentucky and surrounding states, including southern Illinois and southeast Missouri. The warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Wednesday, July 30.
Heat-related illnesses are likely, especially for those without access to air conditioning or who work outdoors. Drivers on I-24, U.S. 60, and KY 305 should prepare for potential pavement damage or vehicle overheating during peak afternoon heat.
Isolated thunderstorms may pop up late Wednesday afternoon into the evening, offering slight relief. Stronger storms and more consistent rain are expected by Thursday night, possibly bringing gusty winds and localized flooding.
Looking ahead, a slight cooldown arrives Friday with highs in the low 80s. However, storm chances persist into the weekend, especially Saturday night into Sunday. Monday brings another round of isolated storms under partly cloudy skies.
