Jackson, Kentucky – Storms developing near the Ohio River could intensify quickly after 6 p.m. Sunday, bringing a focused threat of 1-inch hail and damaging wind gusts along the I-64 corridor through midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the highest severe risk will target areas near and north of I-64, including Morehead, Ashland, and Flemingsburg. Early storms may remain more isolated, increasing the chance for hail and stronger wind cores before merging into a larger line later tonight.

As storms shift south-southeast overnight, the threat will transition. Communities along and north of the Hal Rogers Parkway, including Jackson and Hazard, may still see gusty winds, but the overall intensity is expected to decrease compared to northern counties. Limited atmospheric moisture will keep the tornado risk very low, though it cannot be completely ruled out.

Travel impacts are most likely this evening along I-64 and U.S. 23, where brief downpours and hail could reduce visibility and create slick roads. Residents should move vehicles under cover, secure outdoor items, and stay alert for warnings during the evening hours.

Storm activity will taper toward early Monday morning, but cooler air and additional updates may follow as the system exits the region.
