Louisville, Kentucky – Drivers across central Kentucky and southern Indiana could see visibility drop below a quarter mile before sunrise Tuesday as dense fog redevelops overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, mostly clear skies, moist ground and light winds will allow fog to form late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. The greatest risk for dense fog stretches from Louisville and Elizabethtown to Lexington, Bowling Green and across the Ohio River into southern Indiana, including New Albany and Jeffersonville.

Low-lying areas, river valleys and rural highways are most vulnerable to rapid visibility changes. Portions of Interstate 64, Interstate 65 and the Blue Grass Parkway could see sudden reductions in visibility during the early morning commute.

Motorists traveling late tonight should slow down, use low-beam headlights and increase following distance. Be prepared for abrupt drops in visibility, especially near lakes, creeks and open farmland.

Fog is expected to thin gradually after sunrise Tuesday as temperatures rise, but isolated pockets of reduced visibility may linger through mid-morning.
