Louisville, Kentucky – Extreme heat is gripping Kentucky again this week as dangerous heat index values approach 108° across central and northern regions by Tuesday, July 29. Residents in Louisville, Jeffersonville, and surrounding counties are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, especially along I-65 and I-64 corridors.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday. Temperatures on Tuesday will hit 96°F, with oppressive humidity pushing heat index values to 106°F or higher. The advisory covers much of south-central Indiana and east-central, north-central, and south-central Kentucky.

Precautionary actions: Drink water frequently, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Check on vulnerable individuals and ensure pets have access to shade and water. Limit outdoor activity and reschedule strenuous labor to early morning or evening hours.

Tuesday’s searing heat will give way to a slight thunderstorm chance late Wednesday. By Thursday, scattered storms could bring brief relief, with highs dropping into the upper 80s. More organized showers are expected Thursday night into Friday.
