Hazard, KY – A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday for multiple counties in eastern Kentucky as temperatures drop as low as 4 to 10°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, the advisory includes Martin, Floyd, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Perry, and Pike counties, covering cities such as Hazard, Prestonsburg, Pikeville, and Whitesburg. The extreme cold poses a risk of frostbite and hypothermia for those exposed to the elements without proper protection.

Residents are advised to wear warm clothing, hats, and gloves when outside. Officials also urge checking on elderly neighbors and family members and ensuring portable heaters are used safely. Generators and grills should never be operated indoors due to carbon monoxide risks.

With recent flooding affecting parts of the region, those without reliable heat are encouraged to seek safe, warm shelter overnight.

Temperatures will begin to rise Saturday morning, but cold conditions will persist through the weekend. Stay updated with local weather reports for additional advisories.
