Louisville, KY – Kentucky residents are being urged to prepare for rapidly changing winter weather as several Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early forecasts. The setup may create recurring travel challenges across Louisville, central Kentucky, and the broader Ohio Valley.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strong northwest-flow pattern will funnel multiple clipper disturbances across the Midwest and into the Ohio Valley next week. These fast-moving systems—commonly referred to as the “Clipper Express”—often produce sudden snow bursts, gusty winds, and sharp drops in temperature.
The first system is expected Saturday night, with additional waves likely to follow in 48-hour intervals. Snowfall totals remain uncertain, but forecasters warn that even light accumulation may create slick travel during morning and evening commutes across Louisville, Oldham County, Bullitt County, and surrounding areas.
Meteorologists emphasize that the track of each disturbance will determine where snow develops and how widespread impacts become. Alberta Clippers can intensify quickly and shift direction with little notice, making daily forecast updates crucial through the December 7–13 period.
Travel concerns may extend statewide—from Lexington and Frankfort to Bowling Green and northern Kentucky communities along I-71 and I-75—as colder air and breezy conditions enhance the potential for slippery roads.
The NWS urges residents to follow updated forecasts as the timing and intensity of each clipper become clearer.
