Paducah, KY – Bitter cold temperatures and lingering moisture have created hazardous black ice conditions across western Kentucky this morning. Commuters are urged to allow extra time and use caution, particularly on bridges and overpasses, where slick spots are most likely to form.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, temperatures dropped to the upper teens early today, while residual moisture from recent snowfall has frozen on roadways. Officials emphasize the heightened risk on heavily trafficked roads like U.S. Route 60 and the I-24 corridor, where ice patches may not be immediately visible.

Conditions are expected to improve as temperatures rise above freezing by the afternoon, reaching a high near 37 degrees under partly sunny skies. However, the cold weather will persist throughout the week, with lows dipping to 16 degrees by Thursday night. Drivers should prepare for potential delays and monitor local forecasts for updates.

Looking ahead, sunny skies dominate the midweek forecast. Wednesday will see a high of 50 degrees with mild southwest winds. Thursday’s high drops to 32, marking a cold but dry stretch. By Friday, temperatures will rebound slightly to 38 degrees with sunny skies continuing through Saturday.

Travelers are advised to reduce speeds, avoid sudden braking, and carry an emergency kit while on the road during freezing conditions. The NWS urges residents to stay informed through official updates.
