Louisville, Kentucky – A fast-moving line of showers and storms will push into Kentucky by early Friday morning, bringing gusty winds and lightning that could disrupt the morning commute within hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a cold front will slide south into the region by sunrise Friday, triggering a band of storms that will weaken as it moves deeper into Kentucky. Wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph are the primary concern, along with frequent lightning during the early morning hours.
The greatest storm intensity is expected north of the Ohio River, impacting southern Indiana cities like Evansville and Jeffersonville before reaching Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Bowling Green between roughly 6 a.m. and midday. While severe weather is not widespread, a few stronger cells could still produce brief downpours and isolated stronger wind gusts.
Drivers along I-64, I-65, and I-71 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads during peak travel times. School bus routes and early commuters may see delays as the line passes through.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items tonight and ensure devices are charged in case of brief outages. Keep alerts enabled as storms approach quickly from the northwest.
Conditions improve by Friday afternoon, with drier air settling in for the weekend, though additional updates may be issued if storm strength increases overnight.
