Paducah, Ky. – After weeks of dry conditions, Kentucky is finally set to see a soaking stretch of rain, with widespread totals of 2 to 3 inches expected between Monday and Wednesday. Some areas could collect even higher amounts, easing the state’s severe drought.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, an unsettled pattern will keep showers and thunderstorms in the region much of the week, with the heaviest rainfall peaking from late Monday into Wednesday. Forecasters say localized amounts over 3 inches are likely, especially across western Kentucky, where storms may repeatedly track over the same areas.

Drivers across Paducah, Hopkinsville, and Bowling Green should prepare for ponding on roads and slower commutes, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. Low-lying fields and creeks could quickly swell, bringing minor flooding risks to rural counties.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet urged residents to avoid flooded roads, while emergency officials recommend keeping cell phones charged in case of power outages during thunderstorms.

Rain chances will continue on and off through the end of the week, but forecasters note this round of precipitation should bring meaningful drought relief. More advisories are possible if rainfall trends upward.
