Bowling Green, Kentucky – A sharp temperature drop late Friday night could damage crops and freeze outdoor plumbing across south-central Kentucky within hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Freeze Warning takes effect at 11 p.m. Friday and continues until 9 a.m. CDT Saturday. Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 25 degrees across Ohio, Butler, Logan, Warren, Simpson, and Allen counties.
The cold snap targets a broad stretch of the region, including Bowling Green, Scottsville, Franklin, Russellville, Hartford, and Morgantown. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall quickly after sunset, creating widespread frost and hard freeze conditions before daybreak.
Sensitive vegetation is at the highest risk, especially early-season crops and backyard gardens. Unprotected outdoor pipes could also suffer damage if exposed to prolonged freezing temperatures overnight.
Residents should cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and ensure outdoor faucets are insulated before 11 p.m. Farmers and growers across Warren and Allen counties may need to take immediate protective steps to prevent crop loss.
Temperatures are expected to rebound after sunrise Saturday, but additional cold weather alerts could be issued if another freeze threat develops this weekend.
