Jackson, KY – Light to moderate snowfall is moving across Eastern Kentucky today, prompting Winter Weather Advisories through this evening. The National Weather Service in Jackson reports that areas along and north of the Mountain Parkway corridor, including parts of the Big Sandy region, have the greatest chance for accumulating around one inch of snow or more.
According to the NWS, lighter accumulations are expected farther south and west, near and north of a line from Somerset to London to Middlesboro. The agency warns that slick spots and reduced visibility could create hazardous driving conditions for both morning and evening commuters.
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect until 5 p.m. EST, except for Pike, Martin, Floyd, and Letcher counties, where advisories have been extended until 7 p.m. Snow is expected to linger longest in the far eastern portions of the state, especially at higher elevations in Pike County.
Drivers are urged to use caution, allow extra travel time, and monitor local updates throughout the day as temperatures hover near freezing.
