Louisville, Kentucky – Christmas Day is wrapping up on a notably warm note across Kentucky, and the mild pattern is expected to hold through the weekend before a sharp turn toward winter early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville and Paducah, temperatures across much of the state will remain well above normal through Sunday, with some locations flirting with record or near-record highs. Highs today reached the mid to upper 60s, with pockets of drizzle and low clouds lingering at times.

Friday and Saturday will stay unusually warm, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 60s and lower to mid 70s statewide. Western Kentucky, including Paducah, may see highs near the mid 70s, while Louisville and central Kentucky top out in the upper 60s to low 70s. Spotty light rain or drizzle is possible at times, especially early Friday and again late Sunday.

Sunday brings increasing rain chances as a cold front approaches. A few rumbles of thunder are possible as showers move through, especially during the afternoon and evening.

Behind that front, temperatures drop sharply. By Monday, highs fall into the upper 20s to mid 30s, marking a return to more seasonable winter weather. Residents are encouraged to prepare for the abrupt temperature change after an extended stretch of mild conditions.
