Bowling Green, KY – A Kentucky State Police trooper was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after his cruiser was struck along Interstate 65 in Bowling Green, prompting renewed safety warnings for drivers to move over when emergency vehicles are on the shoulder.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the crash occurred just after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, near the 23-mile marker northbound. Trooper Hany Elibushi was conducting a traffic stop when another vehicle collided with his parked cruiser.
Elibushi was transported to The Medical Center in Bowling Green, where he was treated and later released. The other driver involved was also taken to Greenview Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Police reiterated Kentucky’s “Move Over” law, reminding motorists to change lanes or slow down when approaching stationary emergency vehicles. “This applies not just to law enforcement, but to all vehicles stopped on the shoulder,” officials said.
The incident remains under investigation. Traffic along I-65 in the area experienced delays for several hours as crews cleared the scene.
