Louisville, KY – Southbound lanes of I-65 at the Kennedy Bridge are closed today following a crash on the Kentucky side of the span, affecting thousands of morning commuters.
According to the Indiana State Police-Sellersburg, the closure was announced Friday morning after an incident blocked the critical connector over the Ohio River. No official word has been released yet on the number of vehicles involved or whether there are any injuries.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the Kennedy Bridge entirely and seek alternate routes. Recommended detours include the 2nd Street Bridge, I-64 via the Sherman Minton Bridge, or I-265 on the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Authorities did not provide an estimated time for when the bridge would reopen.
The Kennedy Bridge, which links Louisville, Kentucky, to Jeffersonville, Indiana, via I-65, is one of the most heavily traveled commuter routes in the region. The closure is expected to cause significant delays through the downtown corridor and along alternative bridges during peak travel hours.
