Brandenburg, Ky. – A fast-moving thunderstorm packing 60 mph winds and nickel-sized hail is bearing down on parts of southern Indiana and central Kentucky early Friday, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 5:30 a.m. EDT.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the storm was tracked 9 miles north of Hardinsburg at 5:01 a.m. EDT, moving east at 50 mph. Harrison County in Indiana and Meade, Breckinridge, and Hardin counties in Kentucky are in the path.
Residents in Brandenburg, Irvington, and Muldraugh could see damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The storm may also bring down limbs and power lines, increasing the risk of outages near West Point and Ekron.
Drivers along U.S. 60 and KY-313 should use caution, especially with wind gusts capable of reducing visibility and displacing debris. Officials urge anyone in the warning area to move to a secure interior room on the lowest floor.
This warning remains in effect until 5:30 a.m. EDT. Additional advisories may follow as the storm continues east.
