Jackson, KY – The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of southern Kentucky and Middle Tennessee, including Wayne and McCreary counties, in effect until 11 p.m. EST (10 p.m. CST) Friday night.
Forecasters warn that storms developing across the region this evening may become severe, with the potential for a few tornadoes, scattered gusts up to 70 mph, and isolated hail up to ping-pong-ball size.
The watch area covers a broad swath of the Kentucky–Tennessee border region, including cities such as Cookeville, Winchester, and Columbia. Conditions are expected to deteriorate as a line of storms moves east through late evening.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and move to shelter immediately if a warning is issued. Outdoor activities should be postponed until storms clear the area overnight.
The severe threat is expected to diminish after midnight as cooler, drier air moves in.
