Paducah, KY – A brutal stretch of summer heat grips western Kentucky today, but storms rolling in Saturday could bring some relief — and risk.

A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Friday as the heat index in Paducah and surrounding areas soars to 105°F. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, residents should avoid prolonged outdoor activity, especially along major roadways like US-60 and I-24, where asphalt temperatures can intensify the danger of heat-related illness.

Saturday brings a potential break. The NWS says scattered thunderstorms are expected after 1 p.m. CDT, with a 50% chance of rain and high near 93°F. Though the storms could briefly cool the region, lightning and heavy downpours remain key hazards.

Communities across southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri will remain under active weather threats into next week. Residents should monitor updates closely, especially as the Fourth of July holiday approaches.
