Louisville, Ky. – A blistering heat wave will continue punishing the Louisville region Thursday, with heat index values soaring to 105° by mid-afternoon. Residents and travelers along I-64 and I-65 should avoid extended outdoor activity after 2 p.m., when conditions become hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. EDT Thursday for southern Indiana and central Kentucky. Afternoon sunshine and stagnant air will combine with humidity to push temperatures into the upper 90s, creating dangerous health risks.
Friday’s high will hit 96°F, but the humidity will make it feel even hotter. Louisville Metro EMS urges residents to hydrate, stay indoors, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Children, seniors, and outdoor workers face the greatest risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Scattered afternoon thunderstorms are also possible, with localized lightning and heavy rainfall expected by evening. While these storms may provide brief relief, they also bring the potential for flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Looking ahead, showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday and Sunday, with slightly cooler highs in the upper 80s. Rain chances remain elevated through early next week, keeping outdoor plans in flux across the region.
Stay weather-aware, especially if you plan to travel or attend weekend events. NWS Louisville will issue further updates if the threat of severe storms increases.
