Kentucky – A strong spring storm system is set to impact western Kentucky on Sunday, bringing severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and the potential for hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for portions of western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri. Storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, and heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of localized flooding. A tornado watch is also in effect for the region.
Residents in Paducah, Smithland, and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous conditions, especially between 1 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. Motorists traveling along Interstate 24 should remain cautious, as strong winds and reduced visibility may make driving dangerous.
Sunday’s forecast calls for morning storms, followed by gradual clearing and a high near 69°F. Winds will shift northwest at 10-20 mph in the afternoon.
Looking ahead, Monday—St. Patrick’s Day—will be sunny and warmer, with highs near 61°F. Tuesday brings mostly sunny skies and a high of 72°F. Another chance of showers returns midweek, with breezy conditions persisting.
Residents should stay updated on alerts and take necessary precautions against strong winds and potential power outages.
