Cincinnati, OH – A developing weather system will bring widespread rain across much of the Ohio Valley later today through Sunday, with the heaviest totals expected along and south of the Ohio River.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, rainfall amounts will generally range from 0.50 inches to 1.50 inches across southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, southern Indiana, and portions of West Virginia. Northern sections of the Ohio Valley are expected to see lighter totals.

Forecasters say the rain will lead to in-bank river rises across much of the basin through early next week. While widespread flooding is not currently anticipated, officials caution that flooding cannot be completely ruled out. Some uncertainty remains, particularly across western and southern portions of the Ohio Valley, where isolated minor flooding could develop if heavier bands set up.

The 48-hour precipitation forecast shows the heaviest swath extending across Kentucky and along the Ohio River corridor. Drier weather is expected to return early next week, allowing waterways to gradually recede.

Residents living near rivers and low-lying areas are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and river gauges through the weekend. Drivers should also watch for ponding on roads during heavier downpours.
