Paducah, KY – A few strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to hit western Kentucky Thursday afternoon, with the most significant threat being large hail. The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a warning for the potential of damaging storms from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Residents of Paducah, Mayfield, and Marion are urged to stay alert as thunderstorms develop ahead of an approaching cold front. The primary hazard will be hail over 1 inch in diameter, with potential wind gusts of up to 60 mph. Though tornadoes are not anticipated, the storm intensity could increase rapidly, making it essential for residents to monitor weather updates closely.
Authorities are advising people to stay indoors during the storms and to have a plan in place for shelter. Outdoor activities should be minimized during the storm window, and multiple ways to receive warnings should be available.
