Kentucky Severe Thunderstorm Warning: 60 MPH Winds Hit Paducah, Benton Through 8:30 p.m. Friday

Paducah, Ky. – A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms is threatening western Kentucky with 60 mph wind gusts this evening, prompting urgent warnings for drivers and residents in multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the storm was located just south of Lone Oak at 8:01 p.m. CDT Friday and is racing east at 65 mph. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until 8:30 p.m. for southeastern Livingston, Marshall, southeastern Carlisle, west central Trigg, southeastern McCracken, northern Graves, and southwestern Lyon counties.

Communities including Paducah, Benton, Reidland, and Grand Rivers are in the storm’s direct path. Potential damage includes downed trees, roof damage, and power outages. Portions of Interstates 24 and 69—especially between mile markers 9 to 29 on I-24 and 34 to 51 on I-69—are under threat from sudden wind gusts and debris.

The Land Between the Lakes area and nearby campgrounds such as Hillman Ferry and Demumbers Bay may also see hazardous conditions.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the region until 10 p.m. CDT. Residents are urged to shelter indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain weather-aware as warnings could be extended or upgraded.
