Jackson, KY – The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Kentucky River near Ravenna in Estill County, where major flooding is already occurring. The warning, now in effect until Tuesday afternoon, follows a rise in water levels to 31.3 feet as of Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, the river is expected to crest at 31.3 feet, causing significant flooding in low-lying areas, including roads and structures in Irvine and Ravenna. Flood stage is 21 feet, and the river is forecast to remain above flood stage until late Tuesday morning.
Officials are urging residents to take precautions, especially when traveling at night when flood hazards are more difficult to recognize. The agency also emphasized the importance of turning around if encountering flooded roads, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
