Cincinnati, Ohio – Residents across southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and eastern Indiana face dangerously high heat index values Thursday as oppressive humidity combines with soaring temperatures. Conditions could feel as hot as 104° by mid-afternoon, prompting a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the advisory covers major population centers including Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Covington, as well as dozens of smaller cities across 60+ counties. The intense combination of heat and humidity will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses — especially for vulnerable groups like children, seniors, and those without air conditioning.

Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak hours, drink plenty of fluids, and check on neighbors. Work crews, athletes, and outdoor laborers are advised to take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces. Loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and early morning errands are recommended.

This is the second major heat event in the region this July, and more could follow if the current high-pressure system lingers into the weekend.

⚠️ The advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight. More heat-related alerts are possible if conditions persist.
