Portsmouth, Ohio – A long-duration winter storm is set to impact southern Ohio and northeastern Kentucky beginning Saturday morning, bringing heavy snow, sleet, and icy conditions that could severely disrupt travel through the start of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday until noon Monday for Adams and Scioto counties in Ohio, along with Lewis, Mason, and Robertson counties in Kentucky. The system is expected to deliver a combination of snow and sleet totaling 8 to 11 inches, along with a light glaze of ice that could worsen road conditions and increase the risk of power disruptions.

Regional impacts will be significant as mixed precipitation continues through Sunday night. Roads are expected to become slick and snow-covered, particularly along U.S. Route 23, U.S. Route 52, and State Route 32. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads will be especially hazardous during periods of sleet and freezing precipitation.

Communities including Portsmouth, West Union, Wheelersburg, Manchester, Maysville, Vanceburg, and Peebles could see prolonged travel delays and limited road access. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel, stock vehicles with winter emergency supplies, and prepare for difficult conditions extending into Monday morning.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through noon Monday, and hazardous conditions are likely to impact the Monday commute. Residents should continue monitoring local alerts and check road conditions through OHGO in Ohio or GoKY for Kentucky before traveling.
