Whitesburg, KY – A 30-year-old man from Thornton was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Letcher County.

According to Kentucky State Police, the crash occurred around 1:16 a.m. Sunday on KY-1148 in the Whitesburg community. Troopers and emergency medical personnel responded and found Jonathan Stewart, 30, dead at the scene near an off-road dirt bike.

Investigators said Stewart was operating an off-road dirt bike on the roadway when he allegedly lost control due to slippery conditions, causing the motorcycle to strike a guardrail. He was pronounced dead by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

Police reported that Stewart was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Toxicology results are still pending, and the investigation remains ongoing by Trooper Kevin Day.
