Somerset, KY – A Somerset man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly firing shots at law enforcement during a standoff at a residence near East Mount Vernon Street and Crawford Avenue.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers from Post 11 London responded to assist Somerset Police after a report came in to Pulaski County 911 around 7:45 p.m. Sunday. Authorities said 69-year-old John Woody allegedly fired from inside his home into nearby residences, prompting a response from local officers.

After initial negotiations failed, the Somerset Police Department called in the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team. Authorities said Woody allegedly fired at troopers during the standoff. Law enforcement reportedly used less-lethal force to safely take him into custody.

Woody has been charged with wanton endangerment in the first degree for discharge of a firearm, and attempted murder of a peace officer.

Detective Keegan Bray of the Kentucky State Police is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by Somerset Police and members of the Special Response Team.
