Louisville, Kentucky – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across portions of Kentucky and southern Indiana as mixed precipitation creates hazardous travel conditions early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the advisory is valid until noon EST (11 a.m. CST) and includes south central Indiana along with east central, north central, northwest, and south central Kentucky. Impacted areas include Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort, Elizabethtown, Richmond, Georgetown, Bardstown, New Albany, Jeffersonville, and surrounding communities.

Forecasters say mixed precipitation, including snow and light freezing rain, is occurring this morning. Snow accumulations up to one inch are possible, along with a light glaze of ice, particularly on elevated and untreated surfaces.

The greatest travel concern is for bridges and overpasses, which may become slick before temperatures rise above freezing. The National Weather Service warns that slippery road conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute, especially during the early morning hours.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve late this morning as temperatures climb, reducing the threat for additional icing by midday. Until then, drivers may experience reduced traction and longer travel times.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, allowing extra distance between vehicles and avoiding sudden braking. Pedestrians should also be cautious, as sidewalks, stairs, and driveways may be icy and slippery.

Up-to-date road conditions are available through 511in.org for Indiana and goky.ky.gov for Kentucky. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local weather updates through the morning.
