Kentucky – Dark clouds drift over the Ohio River while warm, humid air fuels thunderstorms across the Louisville area this morning. Wind pushes through downtown streets and rattles traffic signs as storms build ahead of a fast-moving cold front.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, scattered storms developing across central Kentucky and southern Indiana could become strong or severe through the afternoon. Damaging straight-line winds remain the primary concern, though isolated tornadoes and hail cannot be ruled out.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect across the region through the evening. Southwest winds between 15 and 25 mph will produce widespread gusts from 30 to 40 mph, with occasional gusts reaching 45 mph across Louisville, Jeffersonville, and surrounding communities.

Drivers along I-64, I-65, and I-71 should prepare for sudden downpours and shifting crosswinds. Wet pavement and blowing debris may slow travel at times. High-profile vehicles could feel the strongest push along open highway stretches.

Storms will move quickly from southwest to northeast at around 40 to 50 mph. That fast movement means conditions could change within minutes when a storm approaches. Meteorologists now tracking the system say the most active window stretches through the afternoon.

After the front clears the region, noticeably cooler air settles across Kentucky and southern Indiana. Skies gradually brighten and calmer conditions return.

By Friday, sunshine and mild spring weather return to the Louisville region. High temperatures climb near 60 degrees with lighter winds, offering a brief stretch of comfortable early-spring conditions ahead of the weekend.

Another system could bring rain late in the weekend, with a rain-to-snow mix possible by Sunday night as colder air pushes back into the Ohio Valley.
