Louisville, Kentucky – Strong to potentially damaging wind gusts are expected across central Kentucky and southern Indiana tonight as a powerful cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, record high temperatures in the low to mid-70s are forecast Sunday ahead of the front. As the system passes, a line of showers will accompany strong and gusty winds, with gusts of 40 mph likely and localized gusts exceeding 60 mph possible.
The strongest winds are expected between 7 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday, particularly across southern Indiana and central Kentucky. Forecasters note that even areas outside the highlighted severe weather zones may still experience hazardous wind gusts.
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday, covering much of the region. The National Weather Service warns that strong winds could down tree limbs, cause isolated power outages, and make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles.
Confidence in severe weather remains medium, with wind identified as the primary threat. Thunderstorms are expected to be fast-moving, which could lead to sudden changes in conditions.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects, remain weather-aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight.
For commuters and early-morning travelers, lingering strong winds may still impact conditions into Monday morning.
Additional updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as the cold front moves through.
