Kentucky – Cold air settles low over the Ohio River this morning, leaving damp pavement stiff and gray skies heavy with promise. By the weekend, winter turns aggressive, with snow showers thickening, ice mixing in, and travel conditions likely to worsen fast across central Kentucky.

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Friday night through Monday morning for central Kentucky and portions of southern Indiana, including the Louisville metro. According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, heavy mixed precipitation is possible, with total snow accumulations ranging from 9 to 14 inches and light ice buildup near two-tenths of an inch.

Temperatures slide steadily today, setting the stage for snow to stick quickly once it begins. Snow showers develop Saturday, becoming more widespread Saturday night. Winds remain light, but cold pavement increases the risk of slick conditions on I-64, I-65, and neighborhood roads.

Sunday appears to be the most disruptive day. Snow showers continue through much of the day, with visibility reduced at times and roads turning slushy, then icy after sunset. Flash freezing becomes a concern as daytime melt refreezes quickly during evening hours.

Travel could become very difficult or even impossible at times, especially Sunday night into early Monday. Residents are urged to prepare now. Delay non-essential travel if possible. Keep vehicles stocked with blankets, water, flashlights, and chargers. Check heating systems and protect pets from the cold.

Looking ahead, colder-than-normal air lingers into early next week. National outlooks show precipitation chances rising again across the central U.S., keeping winter weather threats active well beyond this storm.
