Paducah, KY – Light rain taps against windshields early Sunday as clouds drift across the Ohio River Valley, signaling a swift cold front sweeping east. Wet pavement and brisk northwest winds make for a raw start, but clearing skies and bright sunshine are just hours away. The National Weather Service in Paducah says showers will taper by midmorning, leaving behind mild fall air and gusts up to 30 mph.

According to the agency, highs will rebound into the mid-60s today before dropping into the low 40s under clear skies tonight. Monday and Tuesday bring a classic stretch of mid-October weather — warm sun by day, cool evenings, and light winds. Afternoon highs will hover in the low 70s, perfect for outdoor cleanup, harvest festivals, or early Halloween decorating.

By Wednesday, a quieter pattern takes hold, but cooler air will filter in behind a weak front. Morning lows may slip into the low 40s and even the upper 30s in rural valleys, offering the first hints of potential frost by Thursday.

Residents planning outdoor work or travel this week can expect smooth sailing — for now. However, forecasters are watching a developing system to the west that could bring increased winds and cooler air by next weekend, possibly setting the stage for the season’s first cold snap.
