Paducah, KY – A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. CDT (10 p.m. EDT) Tuesday for parts of western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southwest Indiana as conditions remain favorable for dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 508 continues for 21 counties in Kentucky, 13 counties in Illinois, and six counties in Indiana. A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms. It does not mean severe weather is already occurring.
The watch includes major communities such as Paducah, Owensboro, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Murray, Mayfield, Madisonville, Evansville, Marion, Harrisburg, Metropolis, Vienna, Carmi, Herrin, Mount Carmel, and Boonville.
Kentucky counties under the watch include Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Christian, Crittenden, Daviess, Graves, Henderson, Hickman, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd, Trigg, Union, and Webster. Illinois counties include Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Wabash, White, and Williamson. Indiana counties include Gibson, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick.
Forecasters warn that storms may produce damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or greater, large hail, dangerous lightning, and torrential rainfall, with localized flash flooding possible in areas that receive repeated rounds of heavy rain.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts, keep multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and be prepared to move indoors if severe thunderstorms approach. Additional warnings may be issued as storms develop throughout the evening.
