Paducah, KY – A major shift in weather is on the way for the Tri-State region as a cold front moves in early next week, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

After a warm and dry weekend, showers and thunderstorms are expected Monday through early Wednesday. The greatest storm chances will come Tuesday and Tuesday night as the cold front pushes across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana.

According to forecasters, rainfall totals will generally range from one-third to a half-inch, but some locations could see an inch or more where thunderstorms develop. While severe weather is not guaranteed, forecasters caution that heavier storms are possible during the frontal passage.

Behind the front, temperatures will tumble 10 to 15 degrees, bringing daytime highs down into the mid-70s by midweek. Overnight lows are forecast to dip into the low 50s, with some areas possibly cooler by late week.

This cooldown will bring the region back to seasonal norms—and in some areas, slightly below average.

Residents are urged to prepare for changing travel conditions early next week, especially during the Tuesday evening commute when storms are most likely.
