Paducah, Kentucky – The first heat wave of the season will grip western Kentucky this weekend, with heat index values soaring up to 108°F from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Heat Advisory is in effect for much of western and southwestern Kentucky, including Paducah, Murray, Madisonville, and Hopkinsville. The advisory begins at 12 p.m. Saturday and remains in place until 7 p.m. Tuesday. The most extreme conditions are expected during the afternoon and early evening hours each day.

With the combination of high temperatures and oppressive humidity, the risk of heat-related illness will increase—especially for those working outdoors or without air conditioning. Cities like Cape Girardeau, Marion, and Owensboro are also within the advisory zone, with the heat wave expected to impact roads, utilities, and daily routines.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Limit time outside, especially for pets and children, and never leave anyone in a parked car.

This marks the region’s first major heat event of 2025. Additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
