Somerset, KY – Temperatures will dip into the low 30s overnight, creating a widespread frost risk that could damage sensitive plants across south-central Kentucky before sunrise Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Frost Advisory remains in effect from midnight through 10 a.m. Sunday for Pulaski and Wayne counties. Valley temperatures are expected to fall to around 30 degrees, while ridge tops stay slightly warmer in the mid-30s.
Communities including Somerset, Burnside, and Monticello will see up to 10 hours of conditions favorable for frost formation. Low-lying areas and sheltered valleys are most at risk, where cold air settles and allows frost to develop quickly on exposed surfaces. Early spring gardens, flowering trees, and sensitive vegetation could suffer damage if left unprotected.
Residents should cover plants with cloth or bring potted vegetation indoors before midnight. Gardeners near Lake Cumberland should take extra precautions in valleys where temperatures will be coldest.
Temperatures will rise after 10 a.m. Sunday, reducing the frost threat, but additional cool mornings remain possible into early next week. More advisories could be issued if clear skies persist overnight.
