Louisville, Ky. – Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms could swamp parts of Kentucky by late Tuesday, triggering flash flooding across low-lying roads, creeks, and urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville—via an alert issued by its Indianapolis office—a Flood Watch will go into effect Tuesday at noon EDT (11 a.m. CDT) and last through 2 a.m. Wednesday for over 30 counties, stretching from Richmond and Danville to Bowling Green and Columbia. Rain totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with localized downpours potentially pushing those numbers higher.

The storm threat targets both north-central and south-central Kentucky, including key travel corridors like I-65, US-127, and the Cumberland Parkway. Cities such as Russellville, Simpsonville, and Campbellsville could experience water-covered roads or flooded intersections by Tuesday evening. Officials warn residents near creeks and small rivers to prepare for rapid rises.

If you live in a flood-prone area, clear storm drains now, charge your devices, and avoid driving through standing water—especially after dark.

Rain is expected to taper by early Wednesday, but more alerts may follow if storms linger or intensify. Check for updates Tuesday morning and stay weather-aware as conditions evolve.
