Paducah, KY – Major flooding is forecast for parts of Kentucky as the Green River continues to rise in Calhoun and Paradise. A combination of 8 to 15 inches of rainfall over the past week has led to dangerous conditions, with rivers reaching near-record levels.
According to the National Weather Service, the Green River at Paradise is expected to crest at 403.4 feet by Wednesday morning, approaching the 1962 record crest of 403.7 feet. In Calhoun, the river is anticipated to peak at 34.8 feet by Thursday afternoon, well above the flood stage of 23 feet.
Residents in McLean, Webster, and Muhlenberg counties are urged to exercise caution, especially near riverbanks, where flooding hazards are most severe. “Turn around, don’t drown,” authorities warned, as flooded roads can pose a serious risk to motorists.
The flood warning will remain in effect until further notice, and additional details can be found at the National Weather Service’s website. Local emergency services continue to monitor the situation as the river levels rise.
