Jackson, KY – Heavy rainfall overnight has triggered a flash flood warning for multiple counties in southeastern Kentucky, including Jackson, Laurel, and Clay, lasting until 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, thunderstorms have produced between 2 to 4 inches of rain across the region as of 2:08 a.m., with an additional inch expected. Flash flooding is ongoing, affecting roads, low-lying areas, and small creeks.
Flooding has been reported in McKee, Annville, Tyner, and other communities. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, with officials warning that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
The affected areas include south-central Estill, northeastern Laurel, west-central Clay, Jackson, southwestern Lee, and northwestern Owsley counties. Emergency services are on alert as water levels rise rapidly.
The NWS advises residents to stay updated on weather conditions and follow official guidance. Avoid travel in flooded regions and prepare for potential road closures as additional rain falls through the early morning hours.
