Paducah, KY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah is warning of elevated fire weather conditions across western Kentucky today as gusty winds and low humidity combine to heighten wildfire risk.

According to the NWS, westerly winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected through the afternoon. These winds, paired with low relative humidity between 25% and 30%, will create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread if any fires ignite.

The alert includes areas such as Paducah, Mayfield, Murray, Princeton, Hopkinsville, and nearby communities. Officials emphasize that outdoor burning should be avoided and that residents should not discard cigarette butts or matches on dry ground.

“Be careful with any equipment that may cause sparks,” the NWS advised. “Even a small flame could spread quickly in today’s conditions.”

The elevated fire risk is expected to diminish by evening as temperatures cool and humidity gradually increases.
