Jackson, KY – Residents across Kentucky are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures this week, with sub-zero wind chills expected overnight through Wednesday. Officials urge caution as frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, a cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chill values could plunge to as low as -5°F in parts of eastern Kentucky, particularly along higher elevations and major routes like I-75. The coldest period will likely be tonight, with actual air temperatures near 0°F.

Residents are advised to dress in multiple layers, cover exposed skin, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Use extreme care when heating homes, and ensure elderly neighbors and pets are safe indoors.

Tuesday Evening: Mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of snow showers after 2 p.m. Highs will reach 21°F, but wind chills could dip as low as -2°F.

Tuesday Night: Light flurries may continue into the evening. Lows will drop to -1°F with calm winds, but frostbite remains a risk.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny skies return with highs around 30°F. Wind chills could still feel near zero during the morning hours.

Looking Ahead: By Thursday, temperatures are expected to rise to 38°F with mostly sunny skies, offering a welcome reprieve. The warming trend will continue into the weekend, with highs nearing 45°F by Saturday.
