Quad State Region, IL, IN, KY – Dense fog has created hazardous driving conditions across parts of the Quad State area this morning, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less. Motorists should expect slow and difficult travel until the fog clears by 9 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service, the dense fog advisory affects portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, and western Kentucky, with visibility severely reduced in some areas. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly on highways such as I-64, I-57, and I-24, which are often prone to fog in the early morning hours.
In Paducah, Kentucky, the thick fog is causing visibility as low as ¼ mile, which is impacting not just city streets but also rural routes. Commuters are advised to drive with low beam headlights and allow extra space between vehicles. Fog conditions are expected to dissipate by 9 a.m., but visibility may remain low through the morning rush hour.
In Evansville, Indiana, and surrounding areas, roadways are similarly affected. Motorists should plan for extra travel time and proceed cautiously through intersections, where reduced visibility could cause delays and minor accidents. The NWS encourages drivers to avoid distractions and remain vigilant in these foggy conditions.
The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CDT, and further updates will be provided as conditions evolve. Please stay tuned for any additional warnings as the morning progresses.
