Pikeville, KY – Temperatures are set to سقوط into the mid-20s overnight, creating a prolonged freeze that could damage crops and plumbing across much of Kentucky before sunrise Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Jackson and Louisville, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight through 10 a.m. Sunday for a large portion of eastern, south-central, and parts of central Kentucky. Valley locations could drop as low as 26 to 29 degrees, while even typically warmer ridges hover in the mid-30s.

Communities including Pikeville, Hazard, London, Somerset, Morehead, Paris, and Cynthiana will see up to 10 hours of freezing or near-freezing conditions. Eastern and southern valleys face the highest risk, where cold air settles and frost forms quickly, threatening early spring crops, fruit trees, and gardens.

Residents should cover plants, bring sensitive vegetation indoors, and insulate or drip outdoor pipes to prevent freezing. Farmers across Appalachian counties are urged to act immediately to reduce crop loss.

Temperatures will gradually climb after 10 a.m. Sunday, but additional cold mornings remain possible into early next week. More freeze alerts could be issued if clear skies persist overnight.
