Paducah, KY – A winter storm and ongoing flooding are set to impact western Kentucky this week, bringing hazardous conditions to the region. Residents should prepare for heavy snowfall, bitter cold, and continued high water levels.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday for portions of southern Illinois, southwestern Indiana, and western Kentucky, including Paducah, Murray, and Mayfield. Snow accumulations between 3 to 5 inches are expected, with temperatures plummeting into the single digits by Thursday, leading to dangerous wind chills.
A Flood Warning remains in effect for Calloway, Graves, Marshall, and McCracken counties due to recent heavy rainfall. Many roads remain flooded, with additional high water expected along the Ohio River at Paducah.
Drivers should avoid flooded roads and prepare for icy travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Those planning to be on the roads Tuesday and Wednesday should monitor forecasts and allow extra time for travel.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the end of the week, with gradual clearing by Friday.
