Louisville, KY – Kentucky residents should prepare for freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills as an arctic cold front sweeps through the region. Gusty winds of up to 40 mph and scattered showers today will give way to sharply colder conditions overnight.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures tonight will plummet to the upper teens and low 20s. Wind chills are expected to drop to the single digits by early Thursday morning, creating potentially hazardous conditions for those outdoors. Residents are urged to limit exposure and ensure pets and livestock are sheltered.
The bitter cold will linger through Thursday, with highs ranging from 25 to 30 degrees. Breezy conditions will persist, keeping wind chills between 5 and 15 degrees. By Friday, skies will clear, but temperatures will remain cold, with highs in the low 30s.
A warming trend is expected over the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the mid-40s by Saturday. However, widespread rain could disrupt outdoor plans by Sunday afternoon, transitioning into light snow across parts of the state. Travelers should monitor road conditions, particularly on I-65 and I-64, as wet roads may refreeze overnight.
Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and use caution during morning commutes on Thursday and Friday. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and plan ahead to stay safe during this cold snap.
