Paducah, KY – Residents of Kentucky and Southern Illinois should prepare for a day of challenging weather, as the National Weather Service has issued warnings for both severe thunderstorms and excessive heat in the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, there is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southwest Indiana today. These storms are expected mainly during the afternoon and evening hours, bringing the potential for damaging winds, hail, heavy rainfall, and possibly isolated tornadoes. There is also a marginal risk for storms in surrounding areas, but the most significant threats are concentrated in the highlighted regions.

In addition to the storm risk, an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect, with dangerous heat index values expected to reach between 105 to 115 degrees. The combination of high temperatures in the mid-90s and oppressive humidity will make for potentially life-threatening conditions, particularly for vulnerable populations. The warning extends until 8 PM CDT, with residents advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and check on elderly neighbors.
