Kentland, IN – A popular local restaurant sustained major damage after a structure fire broke out while the business was open Saturday night in Kentland.
According to the Kentland-Jefferson Township Fire Department, crews responded to the Goodtable Family Restaurant after a fire reportedly started in the kitchen area. Officials said the blaze began while employees and customers were inside, but all occupants were able to safely evacuate before conditions worsened.
Firefighters arriving on scene found flames already advancing and beginning to penetrate the roof, prompting an aggressive multi-agency response. Crews worked together to contain the fire and prevent further spread, utilizing coordinated efforts from several surrounding departments.
Assisting agencies included Goodland Fire, Brook Fire from Indiana, and departments from Sheldon, Concord, Milford, Donovan, and Stockland in Illinois. Newton County Ambulance, Newton County Dispatch, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kentland Police Department also provided support during the response.
Despite the extensive firefighting efforts, officials said more than 50% of the structure was destroyed. The extent of the damage leaves the future of the restaurant uncertain as the community reacts to the loss of a longtime local establishment.
No injuries were reported, and authorities have not yet released information regarding the official cause of the fire. The incident remains under investigation
