Irons, MI – Authorities from Kent County and Lake County Sheriff’s Offices are searching for a missing police K-9 that became separated from his handler Sunday morning near Irons, Michigan, in the Manistee National Forest.
The dog, K9 Soka, is a new German Shorthair mix with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. He is trained in narcotics detection, microchipped, and was last seen wearing a collar with identification. Officials describe him as friendly and say he may approach people if called.
K9 Soka was last spotted about 1.5 miles southwest of Peacock Township Hall. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has been assisting with ground searches, while Kent County deputies have deployed a drone to aid in the search once weather conditions permit aerial support.
Anyone who spots the missing K-9 is urged to contact their local Sheriff’s Office or Lake County Central Dispatch immediately. Residents in Peacock Township, Sauble, Wolf Lake, Baldwin, and Irons are especially encouraged to keep an eye out.
