Dover, DE – A Friday night traffic stop in Dover escalated into a DUI and felony firearm arrest after troopers say a driver showed signs of impairment and resisted arrest.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred Friday, December 12, at approximately 9:50 p.m. A trooper on patrol observed a gray Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on U.S. Route 13 near Jerome Drive, swerving repeatedly and failing to remain in its lane.
Police say the vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as 42-year-old Donnell Eaddy of Dover. Troopers reported multiple signs of impairment, and standardized field sobriety tests were administered at the scene.
Authorities say Eaddy allegedly resisted arrest and was taken into custody after a brief struggle, during which a Taser was deployed.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, troopers say they discovered a loaded, multi-caliber rifle along with several magazines and ammunition. Police noted that Eaddy is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior violent felony conviction.
Eaddy was transported to Troop 9, where he was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm or destructive weapon by a person previously convicted of a violent felony, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, resisting arrest, and failure to remain in a single lane.
According to court records, Eaddy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and later released after posting a $2,650 secured bond. A future court date has not yet been announced.
